The Parents Association celebrated the start of the 2016 holiday season with a Holiday Book Fair and Bazaar, December 6-7 at the Historic Campus. The two-day event kicked off with a Coffee & Cider Social on Tuesday morning. Parents, staff, faculty, and students enjoyed socializing, shopping, author and librarian chats, learning about student campaigns, and seeing samples of the PA’s new collection of Lab Spirit Wear.
The pop-up Book Fair, hosted by 57th Street Books, gave parents opportunity to peruse Teacher Wish Lists and faculty reading recommendations just in time for holiday reading and gift-giving. Donation drives were held to collect toys for children at La Rabida hospital, as well as gently used winter gear for Cradles to Crayons.
At Tuesday afternoon’s Librarian Chat, Lower School Librarian Irene Fahrenweld revealed to parents the books chosen for the 4th Grade Global Reading Challenge. Wednesday’s Author Chats included Kate Hannigan (Cupcake Cousins, The Detective’s Assistant), and Franny Billingsley (The Folk Keeper, Chime) who read selected works and discussed life as a writer. Various student organizations hosted fundraising tables for their clubs, raising awareness for their causes.
A special thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this event possible! To the faculty who created wishlists, the student clubs who came out for the Bazaar, and the many, many parent volunteers who decorated, helped find books, and generally kept chaos at a minimum, we are incredibly grateful for your participation!
