New Families

Dear New Lower School Families,
On behalf of The Lower School Council, welcome to The Lab School!
To help ease the transition to Lab for both you and your child, the Lower School Council would like to invite you to a Welcome Brunch on Saturday, August 17th at 10am in Hyde Park. Please follow the link below to RSVP for this event.

In addition, the Lower School Council will be hosting a Lower School New Family Orientation on Thursday, August 29th at 9:30am in Blaine S201, which is located on the second floor of Blaine Hall – 1362 E. 59th Street.  Please give yourself ample time to find street parking along 59th Street or on the Midway. At our New Parent Orientation, members of the council will take you through our “best practices” of being a parent at Lab. This will include information on drop off and pick up procedures, volunteer opportunities, registering for activities, ordering school lunches, Back to School Night for parents and guardians, etc. Please come with any questions you may have. During your orientation, your new student will be getting to know the other new students and going on a tour with the Lower School counselors. We recommend siblings bring a book or other quiet activity for orientation.

In addition to the New Parent Orientation, there will be an all Third Grade Scavenger Hunt from 11:00am-12:00pm. All new families are welcome to join in the Scavenger Hunt to help your new student get oriented to Blaine Hall. Students will find their classroom and special area classrooms such as science, world language, computer science, library, music, art, and the nearest bathroom! The Scavenger Hunt begins in Café Lab, the school cafeteria. After the Scavenger Hunt, all Lower School students and their families are invited to enjoy lunch together in Blaine Courtyard. We will be providing boxed lunches for you and your new student. Please follow the link below to RSVP and make your lunch selection.

For your convenience, we will be providing carding services from 7am to 2pm in the Markovitz Drama Studio in Gordon Parks Hall. Please consider getting your Parent ID done before or after orientation events to simplify access to campus on the first day of school.

As a recap, here is the schedule for Orientation on Thursday, August 29:
