Lab seventh graders were initiated into the ubiquitous Gen X pastime of roller-skating on Friday, February 19. Over 60 seventh graders participated in the grade-wide event, sponsored the the Middle School Council of the Parents Association. Two chartered buses transported kids after school to and from Fleetwood Roller Rink, located in the village of Summit. Kids wasted no time donning their skates and taking to the rink. In a roller skating rink that has changed little since 1986, the kids enjoyed DJ-blasted tunes, flashing lights, and good old fashioned fun. Parent chaperones stood on the sidelines trading stories, and reminiscing about childhood days spent roller-skating. For those who had never roller-skated, shaky legs in the beginning gave way to confident skaters, and smiles all around by the end of the evening.
