Have you ever wondered what all those Box Tops do?
Last year, Lower School students collected almost 5,000 Box Tops. The PA Council submitted those coupons to the Box Tops for Education program for 10 cents each.
The $500 collected was offered as a community service grant to any applying Lower School teacher(s).
This year, the community service grant was awarded to teachers Linda Weide (4th grade) and Stephanie Mitzenmacher (5th grade), in collaboration with Lisa Sukenic (4th grade) and Zack Ruelas (3rd grade), to broaden awareness for the Syrian refugee crisis. Half the grant provided seed money for fundraising efforts of the homerooms. In a collective effort with the high school clubs, they were able to raise $1,820 by the end of the Holiday Bazaar for RefugeeOne, which is currently supporting Syrian families resettling in Hyde Park. The other half of the grant will go to a public art installation to raise awareness for refugees.
The next Box Tops campaign begins on January 31. Keep clipping and saving! What good will your Box Tops do next year?
